Meet Zee

Zee is a retired mama cat trapped near Saskatoon in November 2023. Her stubby ear-tips and missing teeth attest to her tough times fending for herself and her kittens outdoors. It took Zee several months to learn to trust her foster and also to learn some manners. Now she enjoys pets almost as much as she likes her food, but approach slowly. She is still a bit timid and working on gaining confidence. Sudden, unexpected movements make her nervous. Be mindful of how she is feeling. She occasionally still swats if she is feeling nervous or if she wants food and she thinks you're not getting the message. She plays a little and sleeps a lot. Her favourite place to be is near her foster.

Zee was very timid and distrustful when she first came into SCAT's care. She was assertive timid... growling, lunging, spit-hissing, and swatting. She was quite aggresive about food, swatting to get it ASAP. She has changed dramatically, learning to communicate with meows instead. She loves pets, but is still sometimes nervous, so it works best to ask her if she wants pets, let her come to you, and avoid reaching towards her face. She loves her food and when she thinks it's time to eat, she will occasionally still swat (usually gently) to make sure you get the message. She LOVES meat tubes! Despite her quirky traits she is a very good companion who loves to hang out nearby her foster.

Zee needs patience as she continues to build her confidence in different surroundings and her trust in people. She would likely do best in a quieter household. She has had some exposure to the resident cats in her foster home and shows mild interest and tolerance of them. She is also good with quiet and curious dogs. She needs to have her access to food limited or she will eat eat eat until it's all gone and she has a fat tummy!
