Meet Pismachio

This is Mashi (full name Pismashio). He is a big tom cat that has had a rough life so far. He came to Scat with a big wound on his face and was very cranky. He was at PAWS in Martinsville until his current foster mom picked him up. He had already been named Pismashio because of his temperament to want to smash his paws/claws at anything that came near him. But when he went to his foster home, he was dubbed Mashi, to try to change the stereotype that he would always be that way. He has been with his foster mom for over 2.5 years. The first 1.5 years were very slow going with not a lot of external progress. Over the last year, his personality has almost completely changed!! He integrated with the other cats in the house (he loves cats more than humans--instantly likes any cats he meets). He is very food motivated (especially meat tubes) and has learned to LOVE chin and ear scratches. He loves tummy scratches too and will jump up beside his foster mom on the couch, flip onto his side, and meow…just waiting for his pets! He loves laying on laps and snoozing, or laying in the sun on his cat tree. He is a very vocal boy because he wants you to know he is there for you. He also has a beautiful meow; he didn't make any meows for the first year (only hisses/growls) and now he meows lots.

He would make such a wonderful pet for someone! He is very independent, can be left alone overnight with no issues, won't scratch or bite, and is like the cat big brother of the house. His adopter would need to have some patience with helping Mashi learn to like being picked up and be willing to wait for him to get comfortable in a new space, because when he does get comfortable, it is a beautiful thing.
