He came to us severely emaciated and in shock as his teeny body can’t control his temperature and glucose levels on its own, which is extremely life threatening. He was approximately 1 year old and weighed only 1 kg! After 5 days of intensive care at a clinic and a complicated hospitalization at the WCVM small animal clinic, we are happy to report that Beans is not only doing well but he’s thriving! He takes steroids daily (which is critical to his survival) and is currently stable. He has been deemed unadoptable by a vet due to his very uncertain medical condition and poor long-term prognosis. Beans seems to be more like a puppy than a cat, he gets very excited to meet new people and wants all the attention. She had significant mobility issues and after investigation it was determined that she has a spinal deformity in her neck, a cerebellar herniation, and a syringomyelia. She was designated unfit for adoption as her long-term prognosis was unknown and she wasn’t expected to live long. Despite her poor chances, she has thrived in foster care and continues to defy expectations. Mavi loves to cuddle and loves snacks. Having been born in a Rubbermaid container in a shed, the family already had a rough start and Lallybroch was the runt. Now that is pretty typical of most of our intakes, but this girl was different. At her 3 week wellness check, it was noticed that she had a slight heart murmur, no big deal she'll grow out of it, right? At about 5 weeks, her foster mom noticed that she was lethargic and not being her normal playful self. As she was not yet eating solid food, she was significantly smaller than her siblings. So off to the vet, concerned but not too worried. After an exam, it was discovered that her little heart murmur wasn't so little but a grade 6/6 - the worst it could be. At barely 500g, she was just too small to do any diagnostics to confirm, but VSD (Ventricular Septal Defect) or PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosus) was the suspect cause. In English: a heart defect that will significantly reduce her life. Lallybroch was now palliative until her good days are outnumbered by her bad. Her foster mom made the commitment to spoil this girl and make whatever time she has with Lally the best time possible! As an outgoing friendly kitten, it was easy to take her places: SCAT events, picnics, car rides, and even to work! This spoiled princess wanted for nothing, and got everything! Soon enough spring led to summer, summer to fall, and finally Lallybroch was big enough for cardiac testing. In September we got the confirmation of VSD, but we did get some good news. Although her heart sounds "awful", the cardiologist is optimistic that with medication to lower her blood pressure she can have a great life! How long that life is, that will be up to Lallybroch! She is an older gal but still has lots of playfulness in her. She especially loves balls that make noise and any toy on a string. Xena is a sweet girl and after a while she does quite well with other cats. In her foster home she tolerates the other female cat but snuggles and grooms with the male cat. She loves belly rubs and brushes and is quite talkative especially in the mornings. She has a really good appetite despite having lost quite a few teeth. Even after she was safe and warm, that protection instinct never wavered. Although we will never know her story, we suspect that she had some time in a home as house noises have never bothered her. How she ended up on the mean streets of Saskatoon, we will never know. Now that her babies have all grown up, she gets to be the kitten she never had a chance to be! Laoch LOVES, LOVES to play!! She will spend hours chasing her favorite mouse, followed by down time looking out the window. Treats and catnip are her guilty pleasures! Laoch still doesn't trust 100%, but we are working on this and routine is helping to get there. She makes choices to be in rooms with us and no longer runs and hides when we walk into a room. We are not at the petting stage yet, but time and patience will help - starting to sneak touches in where we can. She isn't fearful of hands, just not trusting. This beautiful former momma needs a family that will give her the space she needs to get comfortable at the start and continue to work with her. Laoch may never be a lap kitty, but she may surprise you. Laoch has been introduced to other foster kittens and has done very well with them. She set and maintained her boundaries, but we have caught them snuggled up together (after a week). She has not met dogs, so that's still unknown. A family with older children with good cat manners would be best. She does provide warnings - growls, slinking away - before she swats with paws (mostly without claws, but sometimes they are out). She came to from a hoarder’s situation. She was emaciated, just a skeleton, scared of everything and everyone, it took weeks/months for her to even leave the room she was in. Ella eventually came around, snuggling and purring (she has an amazing purr). Ella gradually put on weight and looks like a totally different cat from when she first came to SCAT. Her appetite is very good now, unfortunately her previous eating habits/diet has left or contributed to an incredibly sensitive stomach and she throws up regularly. She is on special food but nothing has really changed or helped. She is, however, in good spirits and maintains a good weight. She also had a terrible time with her teeth and has only 3 left, she manages to eat though. She has had several teeth extraction operations. Ella has had many health issues as mentioned above. She’s been through so much, and upheaval is not good for her. She likes things to stay the same and she’s happy and playful. Whether she is stealing dryer balls from the dryer, bird-watching from the window, or “helping” with chores, she brings joy (and a little chaos) to every corner of the house. She’s super smart and loves being around people—but only on her terms. TikTok enjoys closeness, but not cuddles unless she initiates. She currently does not like to be picked up or held, so she needs a family that respects her boundaries. While she has a sweet side (yes, she’ll sometimes become a lap cat!), TikTok is still working on some behavioural quirks like play-biting and foot attacks—usually when she feels ignored or overstimulated. She would thrive in a quiet but busy home with no other cats and no small dogs. Larger dogs could be okay if they’re very patient and gentle and will accept her as their new boss! We were lucky to have caring folks who made sure we had food and water. But, it was decided in 2023, that I should come into the Street Cat Rescue program along with a friend. I was then given the name Joyful. I was shy at first and the new caring folks realized that it would take me some time to warm up and accept that this new life would be good for me and I wouldn’t have to worry any more about my future. Unfortunately, nature did play a trick on me, and when I was at the doctors, they diagnosed me with stage 2 mammary cancer. The SCAT folks found a wonderful foster mom for me where I could live out my days in pampered luxury with all the food and toys I could ever want. My new mom says I live up to my name as she says I have brought much joy to her life. She pampers me, as I deserve, and we are great companions…whether lounging on the couch and watching TV or snoozing away in bed together. I have a big balcony where I can relax in the sunshine listening to the birds in the trees, watching the ducks swim on the pond or see the bunnies in the grass below. She has turned from a spicy, scared Onion to a sweet, cuddly Onion. When her fosters first got her, Onion was fairly nervous around people, and spent a lot of time hiding and swatting at any strange hands coming her way. After all, she was a single mom who lived on the streets! However, as time has gone on, she has gained massive confidence, and loves cuddles with her fosters, playing, and hanging out with her cat foster siblings. Onion is a very laid back girl. She spends most of her time snuggling and snoozing, with the exception of mealtimes (her FAVOURITE TIME) and the occasional playtime with her foster parents & siblings. She does not need much space - her favorite place is the bed. She can spend hours in bed with with her fosters, and loves to get all the scratches and snuggles. She makes a great pillow! Onion would be great either as a solo cat or with some cat friends. It took a bit of time for Onion to acclimate to her cat foster siblings, but now they get along great and spend all day snoozing. Onion has 3 boundaries: No touching her paws, no picking her up, and no touching her belly (as fluffy and tempting as it is!) Her fosters have tried to work with her on these, but she simply does not like nor tolerates these types of interactions. I’m Yara, a shy but stunning black panther (okay, domestic cat—but don’t tell me that!). I’ve been in foster care since the summer of 2024. While I can be a little sassy with humans, I absolutely love other friendly cats—they make me feel safe and confident. I’ll run and play as long as the human stays in one spot. My foster mom has been so patient with me. She understands that I need quiet spaces and cozy hiding spots. She always tells me how beautiful I am and how much she’d love to cuddle me—but I’m still learning to trust, so I politely (and dramatically) decline. This summer, I had to visit that scary place they call “the vet.” The doctor checked my teeth, my ears, my shiny fur coat, and listened to my heart. That’s when my foster mom’s smile faded—the doctor heard a heart murmur. More tests revealed I have a rare congenital condition called Cor Triatriatum Sinister. I don’t understand what that means, but I could tell it was serious from my foster mom’s face. Now I take daily medications and need to live a low-stress lifestyle to keep my special heart happy. I feel fine and have no idea anything is wrong—but my doctors say I’ll need lifelong care. That means I get to stay with my amazing foster mom forever, where I’m safe, loved, and spoiled (as I deserve). Even though I’m not looking for a new home, the kind humans who help pay for my care still need help with my medications and yummy food (that’s where my pills are hidden!). He is a mixture of constantly scared and vigilant on the one hand, and determined to seek adventure and whatever, on the other hand. He likes pets but has to be gently pursued and waylaid to begin enjoying them. Currently, he is attempting to integrate himself into the full shared spaces of his foster home. The resident cats are old and difficult and Yuki has to learn to respect their (totally rigid) boundaries, though he would really like to play. In short, he risks getting creamed otherwise. He has been a litterbox champ since day one though he may never have seen a litter box before. He likes Whiskas and Proplan kibble, loves treats but not wet food of any sort we have found. This last trait made him difficult to trap, as we usually rely on such delicacies as sardines. He seems to be magnificently healthy. At present, Yuki is suitable for homes with plenty of patience or with knowledge of feral cat quirks. He darts about like a madman if you so much as look at him, but if you approach with stealth and perform massage, a purr may be forthcoming, and a lot of writhing around. If you have a friendly cat and are looking for a cat companion, Yuki will be a great fit as he gets along well with other cats (as long as they're not mean to him) and with a bit of time and patience, will become good friends with them. A cat companion will also bring Yuki out of his shell and you'll see him transform into an even cuter, sassy cat! For such a little girl she has a big voice and likes to tell you about her day (even if you've been with her the whole time). Squirel would do well with other cats if they are okay being bossed around by someone half their size. She doesn't discriminate between her people; whoever is willing to give her attention at the time is her favourite at the time. She is extremely food-motivated so winning her over is as simple as giving her a treat. And after a good evening of the couch, she loves to curl up on the bed for the night too. She has been very friendly with every person she has met so far, and was not even bothered by the dogs at the vet clinic. She is very gentle with people, respectful of the furniture, and doesn't make a mess of her food either. Maple Bacon is currently receiving medicine for a bad case of ear mites that she arrived with. Her ear canals are fairly swollen, so this medicine might continue for a while (follow up vet appointment Dec 11th will tell us more). Maple Bacon is a larger girl at 16 lbs. This beautiful girl started off fiery with hissing and swats, but now is a 'just a baby' enjoying belly rubs and snuggles in bed. Other than being constantly in your presence, her other favourite thing to do is watch the birds. Foster house has an invisible bird feeder attached to a window that keeps her occupied for hours! Hortencia enjoys catnip toys and running up and down the hallway for her bedtime and post-breakfast zoomies. She loves to play chase and has been respectful of the foster house resident cat, backing off when the resident kitty signals she has had enough. Hortencia will do best in a home that could give her space and patience as her spicy side likely comes from a bit of fear. A quieter household, maybe with another cat (she hasn't met dogs yet), would be her ideal forever home. One where she could have her own small space to start in (bedroom, rarely used bathroom, etc.) and gradually be given access to the house once she feels safe. He does love to play with toys, if you get him going with the wand toy, he’ll show his killer moves. He came in with other cats and clearly looked out for them. Sebastian has a quiet guardian energy. He is thoughtful, careful with his boundaries, and very respectful of the other cats around him. He loves the companionship of his fellow felines and feels much braver when they are nearby. When Sebastian feels safe enough, his playful side comes out. He enjoys playing with toys and rolling around in catnip. When he feels especially brave he has the sweetest little chirp and will often sing to himself and whoever might be listening. Sebastian is also very handsome. He has luxuriously soft fur, expressive emerald eyes, the shortest little legs, and what looks like a cool little tabby sleeve tattoo on one arm. He is curious about human life, but for now, he is taking things at his own pace and building confidence every day. Your biggest concern with this big boy will be making sure he doesn’t get too chunky- we have him on a diet now to hopefully help him lose some pounds. He will play a little bit, but mostly just tries to rub his face on the stick toy and purrs. Clearly he much prefers pets. He started out pretty shy, but within the first few days he was out from his hiding spot and soaking up all the love and attention he could. He just needs a little time to feel comfortable around strangers. His big green eyes and purr will be sure to steal your heart! He consistently uses the litter box, has not tried to scratch anything aside his scratching cardboard. He LOVES watching outside the window. A calm environment (especially at first!) and a consistent routine would be ideal for soup. As he is diabetic, Soup will require constant monitoring for signs of a diabetic issues. At this time he is not getting insulin but when needed he takes it like a champ. An unfortunate side effect of Soup’s previously untreated diabetes is a slight aversion to using his litterbox. Throughout his time with his foster family, Soup has only improved and adjusted to using the litterbox more and more frequently. Until that is resolved, he will be staying with his foster mom. His fur chewing has given him a rather scruffy appearance but, while he will never win Best In Show, he is a practically perfect cat otherwise. He has wonderful house-cat manners. He never scratches the sofa, never gets on counters or the dining table and never meows for treats. He eats only dry food so there are no messy cans to deal with and his litterbox habits are neat. He is a very sociable cat. He will meet your guests at the door and sit on the sofa with them and let them pet him for as long as they want. To bring this quiet lad out of hiding, you have to apply a careful rotation of treats, toys, time, and most importantly, other furry friends. He came into fostering with his companion Yukon Gold Potato, and showed every sign of being a protective ‘big brother’ to his best friend. He came from a colony with other cats, so his foster had a sneaking suspicion that he might be a big friendly giant. When Yeti’s foster family’s resident cats first came into the foster room, this furry giant perked right up, and chirped a ‘hello!’. With some examples from these new pals, he has been emerging from the dark and secret caves (cardboard box) he calls home. Now that Yeti has started to show himself during daylight hours, his foster family has a sneaking suspicion he will be a real cuddle bug. He is a big fan of his schedule of wet food at breakfast and dinner, and has learned to come out for pets during these exciting times of the day. There are even purrs and meows! While he still steps ever so daintily around the room (he might have big feet but he is very careful with them) and watches playtime from a safe spot, he is starting to warm up enough to play with toys. His favourite game is to chase a stick under a blanket, so watch out for your toes in bed in the future! Yeti is, above all else, a gentle giant who would do best in a home that will let him settle in gently, and that has a friendly and confident cat or two. She and Yeti are still quite shy, but learning confidence quickly. She is quite bonded to Yeti. Little Potato, as her foster family call her, was the first to show signs of being curious about pets. While she still hasn’t quite figured out what to do while being pet (there is a lot of flopping to her side and trying to play with hands), she is very happy to receive them. She turns into a pet and purr machine during her scheduled breakfast and dinner time - wet food especially, is a highlight for this little lady. She also gets pretty excited for meat tube treats, but hasn’t quite got the knack yet - she gets so busy purring and rubbing on hands or foster friend Yeti that she will somehow end up with purée on her forehead. What is sure to draw her out is playtime. She loves to chase thrown treats, hunt down wand toys, and especially, chase anything under a blanket or towel. She is very playful and kittenish, and while her personality is still evolving, she seems to be curious, sweet, and friendly. She would do well in a quiet home with another friendly and confident cat, or one with someone to play with her patiently. He is incredibly friendly, affectionate, and seems to get along wonderfully with humans and animals alike. He’s the perfect mix of playful and cuddly—always happy to have some fun, but equally happy to soak up all the love he can get. Radish absolutely loves attention from his foster parents and will happily accept any and all pets that come his way. His particular favourite? Booty pats! Give him enough and he’ll dramatically flop onto his side and present his belly for rubs. Sweet, silly, affectionate, and full of personality, Radish is more than ready to find a family of his own. These days, Digger is looking, feeling, and smelling (!) much better and this handsome fellow's true nature is starting to show. While he still tends to smack first and ask questions later if he's unsure or startled, he mellows more and more each day. Diggory will now sometimes seek out human contact, rub against legs and enjoy head scritches. When his tummy is full and he's relaxing with familiar people, he morphs into a funny clumsy goofball who loves to play, chirps and rolls around on his back, and falls asleep in the middle of the floor with his head on foster human's foot. We are convinced that under his tough guy exterior is a personality that matches his sweet, squishy face, and that soon the only evidence of his past life will be a torn ear and a slightly cross-eyed squint. Diggory has scarring on his right eye from an old injury or infection. He can't see out of this eye and it is a bit weepy, but it doesn't seem to bother him and it doesn't require treatment. Diggory has FIV, which is an immune disorder caused by a virus passed through deep bite wounds. Cats with FIV typically live a normal lifespan but it is recommended to have annual vet visits, be up to date on vaccines, and not be allowed to roam outside. He is an excellent shepherd of humans, preferring that everyone in the home be in approximately the same location so he can monitor properly, and he has turned into quite a lap cat! He does not understand that humans possess something called “personal space,” but he is quite insistent that his own space be respected: he will happily snuggle all evening and all night long, but he will tolerate only a couple of pets before he gets nippy. He is quite social and will come out and visit with even large groups of people as long as folks sit down, and he is very well behaved at the vet. Although he is a mature gentleman, Hunnter is still moderately active and enjoys multiple play sessions daily. “Ambush predator” is his favourite mode: he loves to hide under a blanket draped over a footstool and then pounce on the toy as it passes. He will also pounce on other things – like your feet – from this position if no toys are available. Wand toys with strings or fur are his favourite (not feathers), and he also likes balls or other things that roll, especially if they make noise. Hunnter has food sensitivities that make him itchy, which makes him scratch and pluck his fur, so he needs to eat a specific food. Luckily, he enjoys it! He has lost some weight while in SCAT’s care and is most of the way toward his goal weight. It is important that Hunnter has Hepatic Lipidos but it's currently well managed and the vet has recommended that he have a recheck every 6 months to confirm that. He needs to eat only his specific food and not get any crumbs or other foods that might be left unattended. Because of this, and because he enjoys only brief and specific pets at this point, he would do best in a home with no children or with older children who will respect his space and guard their food. (Hunnter does not beg for food at the dinner table, and he has not yet tried to get up on the counter, but he views snacks on the couch as fair game.) Hunnter is a fun and quirky companion. Here are a few of his “special somethings.” • He likes to play with doors and may accidentally lock himself in a room if a door is left partway open and not all the way open or shut. • He loves water and will occasionally splash around in his water dish. He may also wait outside the shower door for a chance to come in and lick up the delicious shower water – this is why I have a water dish in my shower, and he does occasionally drink from it. If you are wondering “why is Hunnter’s butt wet?” I’ll bet you anything that someone just had a shower and he’s been sitting in the tub. • He likes the spot between his shoulder blades rubbed. Do not attempt the belly: it is off limits! • Hunnter sleeps most of the night and gets up to play occasionally. Offer him a toy or another enriching and exciting activity, and he's happy to move on without a fuss. He has his crazy kitten bursts of energy, but more than anything, GG wants to be with his people. If you're home, he wants to know what you're doing and how he can be part of it. He's a 10/10 snuggler whose favourite place is curled up beside you with a high-pile fleece blanket to knead. He does well with both adult cats and kittens and would fit in well with other nice feline friends. GG has been an absolute joy to foster. He's genuinely sweet, deeply affectionate, curious, and the kind of cat who wants to be involved in every part of your day. When we met him up close, he turned out to be just a little guy, maybe not quite completely grown up. He is still nervous and may hide briefly from new people, but fundamentally he wants pets, love and play a lot, a lot. He can hug an arm happily without putting his claws out but if really, really, excited – like if you dare to leave the room when he needs to play, those claws just grab. He eats everything on offer so far and definitely uses the litter box like a champ. After a month with us, his soft grey fur is still a bit thin but growing out. He may need regular grooming to avoid nasty mats. So for his safety, he needed a new start in a new place, which took way too long to find - but that is his before story! Although his path has changed for the better, it doesn't come without a cost. This sweet senior boy needs to learn to live indoors, become confident in new surroundings, and overcome his medical needs. Fortunately, his caretakers did an amazing job with keeping him as healthy as possible, but he's going to need a dental to remove broken canines from too many years on the streets and defending his territory. He came to us extremely scared. He slowly started coming out of hiding when being fed, and progressed to purring and kneading when you came in the room at feeding time. However, he still wouldn't allow you to touch him. We eventually did slow introductions to the resident cats and he was enamored by one kitty, as well as another female foster. It was at that point he would allow us to pet him when feeding. Akatosh was largely confined to his cat room for fear of him hiding and us being unable to find him, or escaping the house. As he became more attached to the other cats, we started leaving his door open during the day. The busy household deterred him from exploring, initially. He now has gotten accustomed to being around loud kids, and existing in the same space as the humans. He loves playing with the other kitties, and they will zoom around the house. If he can't find them, he will meow until one shows up. He will nap on the couches, chairs, and beds. While he still isn't very approachable, he will purr and allow pets at feeding time still. He is a gentle kitty, and has never swatted, bitten, or scratched. We think he would come around even faster in a quieter household. Akatosh is an FIV positive kitty. However, his passive nature and love of other kitty companions would make him a great candidate in a home with another cat friendly kitty or two. FIV is an immune disorder caused by a virus passed through deep bite wounds. Cats with FIV typically live a normal lifespan but it is recommended to have annual vet visits, be up to date on vaccines, and not be allowed to roam outside. Consistent positive reinforcements of positive activity and play will be needed. His foster family is currently made up of two cats and a doodle. Toby ignores the doodle but would really like to have a good game of chase and wrestle with the felines. They are much less active than he would like. Toby needs to be paired with a confident, dominant cat. He enjoys 2nd and 3rd breakfasts and may have been a hobbit in another life. And don't forget the snacks - chicken, cheese, meat tubes, and dental kibbles are his favs. Also - take caution if you decide to sit on the couch to eat - he'll want to help you finish your meal. He loves to be around his foster humans and will follow them from room to room keeping tabs on their wearabouts and the going ons in the house and when his duties are done for the day he likes to nap under the bed or on the floor in the sun with one of his resident cat friends. If he's not with one of his foster humans - or curled up and playing with one of the resident cats - he's often found trying to tame the wagging tail of his foster humans 100lb resident dog. Walter is a sweet boy who had a rough touch and go start after being found close to deaths door. Bentio is the biggest softie who only wants cuddles and lovin. Treats are yummy, but pets are even better for this guy! He will follow you around in hopes you give him some attention, but will watch you casually if you're trying to accomplish a task such as cleaning or work. Benito has a playful side too, strings are the best toy ever and this boy is a hunter! He has quick instincts and will track his prey with crazy accuracy, but if he notices you're open to petting him that rearranges his priorities. He can be shy when meeting new people, but warms up quickly (especailly with his favourite brush in hand). His temperament is very predictable, and he tolerates a lot of weird antics. He is wary of kisses (head coming close to him and the noise), but is getting more and more comfortable with them and has even head booped a few times. Benito takes a couple days to adjust to new things, but is a very brave boy who tries his best to please. Anyone who has this angel in their home is sure to feel loved 1000x over. Benito has Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV+), so he can get a stuffed nose at times and be sneezy. He snores a bit when sleeping, but you'll know where he is where ever he chooses to nap! FIV is rarely transmitted through shared bowls and water, however it is something to note if you have an FIV negative cat in the household. Acura had a rough start to life. He and his siblings were found on an acreage. He was suffering from severe upper respiratory infections and was multiple weeks behind in weight. Thankfully, after plenty of care, food, and time to grow, Acura is now officially healthy and ready to enjoy life to the fullest! This fluffy little boy has discovered that water is surprisingly entertaining and loves any opportunity to splash around and investigate it. He also seems to be convinced that he’s constantly plotting a great escape, so his future family should be prepared for a curious little adventurer who always wants to know what’s happening on the other side of the door. When he’s not busy planning his next great adventure, Acura enjoys stretching out in a warm patch of sunshine for a well-deserved nap. We’re still waiting for his personality to arrive, or not, but until then, Altima is happy to be the mysterious member of the group. Occasionally zoomies appear but he typically is just basking in the sun. Maybe he’s saving all his energy for his future forever home, or maybe his greatest talent is simply being a cute little grey blob. She is an impossibly cute, senior girl who came from an unfortunate hoarding situation of 47 cats in rural SK. Spoon started her journey with Scat by getting spayed, and having ALL of her remaining (very rotten and painful) teeth removed. And somehow, it made her even cuter. She has spent several months settling into house-cat life, learning that she quite enjoys pets and scritches, as long as it’s on *her* terms. She happily comes up on the bed and presents herself for pets, which she leans into enthusiastically, while purring loudly. She has also discovered that catching the human ‘indisposed’ is also a perfect time to ask for pets as she has a “captive” audience. She is remarkably spunky and playful for one with zero teeth to defend herself with, often initiating a sparring match with her foster sibling, Spork. She is quite playful with toys, and will carry them around in her mouth, while trilling or meowing at the same time. Spoon is still quite fearful of strangers, so we anticipate that she will not “show well” to prospective adopters, and will take a bit of time to adjust to a new home, and people. She is also skittish about loud noises or sudden movements, so we think she would do best in a home without children, or dogs. And while it would be awesome if an adopter wanted to keep Spoon & Spork together, it’s not an absolute deal-breaker as long as there are other friendly cats in the home, as Spoon derives confidence from watching, and interacting with other socialized cats. Her only bad habit (so far) is counter-surfing, however she doesn’t try to steal your food, she more-so just seems curious to watch what you’re doing, and be where the other cats are. He started his journey with Scat by getting neutered, and having a bunch of painfully rotten teeth removed. Since then, his foster has spent considerable time earning his trust, and teaching him all about how good house-life can be. Spork has recently decided that pets are actually enjoyable, and he will let you know with his adorably crispy meow that he would like some attention. He’s a big fan of head pets and neck scritches. He also likes to follow foster Mom around the house like a furry hall-monitor, and bathroom sentry. Spork is still quite nervous around strangers, where he tends to transform into a magnificent, “House-Gargoyle”, hiding up the cat tree, frozen, unblinking and unmoving. For this reason, we feel he will not “show well” to prospective adopters, and will require a patient household until he decides that he can trust you, at which time you will have a little furry shadow wherever you go. He is perfectly fine entertaining himself with one of his (many) favourite toys, or cardboard scratchers. He mostly keeps to himself, but he does like to roughhouse (ever-so-gently) with his toothless foster sibling, Spoon. Despite mostly enjoying his own company, he does gain a lot of reassurance/confidence-building in watching other social cats interact with the humans. And while it would be great if someone wanted to keep Spork & Spoon together, it’s not a deal-breaker as long as there are other friendly cats in the home. Spork’s only bad habit (so far) is counter-surfing, however he mostly just seems curious to know what you’re doing, and be near to you; though sometimes he does want to give your food a sniff-test for quality assurances, obviously. Like her namesake (stinging nettle), you have to be patient and respectful if you want to handle her because she won't hesitate to give a bit of a sting (or a scratch) if you come on too strong. She may not be the snuggliest, but once you gain her trust, you will have a bold, independent, and loyal companion worth her weight in gold! Urtica is still a bit feral and just starting to warm up to the idea of being pet.
